27 May Tech Tip Tuesday: How to install proximity sensors on your stabilization legs
Power-Packer offers proximity sensor-equipped stabilization legs. Our proximity sensors are inductive and designed for precise and reliable detection of the piston in the fully retracted position, significantly reducing the risk of damage to the leg during transit. They can be set as normally open or normally closed, depending on your application needs and electrical circuit.
Proximity sensor product specifications
- Dimensions: 12 x 45 mm
- Installation: Flush mounting
- Detection range: 4 mm

- Operating voltage: 10-30 VDC
- Ambient temperature: -25 to 70 C
- IP rating: IP68
- Connection: M12x1-male, four-pin connector
- Kits: 1010003864 NO and 1010003865 NC
Installation instructions
1. Preparation
-
- Ensure the power supply is turned off before beginning installation.
- Remove and inspect all items in the kit (1010003864 or 1010003865) to make sure all parts are in proper working order.
- Remove the sensor port plug. See Figure 1.
- Verify the port is clean and free of debris.
2. Mounting
-
- The sensor is designed for flush mounting. A M12-1 port hole is located on the front of the stabilization leg under the guard.
- With the cylinder fully retracted, install the proximity switch in the port. Bottom out the switch, finger tight, into the hole with the jam nut, making sure it’s clear of the sensor’s surface on the port.
- Unscrew the proximity switch one full turn. Hold it in place and tighten the jam nut to lock the switch in place. Torque the jam nut to 8 foot-pounds. See Figure 2.
- Install the cable onto the proximity switch, and torque it to 6 foot-pounds. See Figure 2.
3. Electrical connection and testing
Connect the sensor to the power supply using the M12x1-male, four-pin connector, and verify to ensure the wiring is correct. Turn on the power supply, and check the output signal to confirm it switches correctly when the object is detected.
